About Tim

Tim has been working with his hands ever since he graduated high school and went off to a trade school for two years in northern Maine where he learned traditional boatbuilding & design. After graduation, he went to work for David Nutt in Boothbay Harbor, Maine in his boat shop where he worked on steel, fiberglass, and wooden boats of all sizes. On weekends and evenings, he built his own 25-foot Great South Bay Catboat. Finishing the cat boat in September 1990, he sailed it to Martha’s Vineyard, MA where he put his skills to work building doors and windows for a local cabinet maker. Saving up to purchase his next boat, one better suited for offshore sailing, he found Vertue XXXV in Vineyard Haven harbor. This 25’ Laurent Giles design was a perfect fit. After trips to the Bahamas, Maine and all along the eastern seaboard, Tim completed an extensive re-build on Vertue xxxv. Along with his wife Tricia, he opened a sail loft in Vineyard Haven. Broad Reach Sails and Canvas was a full-service loft- building & repairing sails, dodgers, and cushions. After 15 years at the marina, the shop was relocated to a shop Tim built with his father at his home. The shop now hosts a variety of activities from building projects-windows, doors, cabinets, boats, and a lot of bee boxes. Tim and Tricia also own and operate Island Bee Company.
